Conferences and Publications

The Conferences and Publications Department (C&P) provides linguistic and logistical expertise to ITU members and staff to organize conferences, meetings and events, produce publications and prepare official documents in the six official languages of the Union. Its work reflects the critical importance of multilingualism within ITU and throughout the United Nations system.

"Multilingualism is both an asset and a shared commitment for all organizations in the United Nations system."
(Report of the Joint Inspection Unit, 2020)

Multilingualism is the ability of individuals and the capacity of organizations to communicate in speech and writing in multiple languages. Within ITU, it refers principally to the use of the six official languages of the Union (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) on an equal basis throughout all our day-to-day activities.

C&P provides linguistic expertise and high quality translation services during the preparation of official texts, recruits teams of experienced interpreters, ensures the availability of infrastructure and facilities for holding conferences and meetings, and produces documents and publications in the six languages within specified deadlines.

All these activities are supported by the growing use of digital technology and tools to complement the work of professional human translators, increasing capacity and reach. C&P is at the forefront of ITU's commitment to upholding linguistic diversity and promoting awareness of the importance of multilingualism in its work.
