| SESSION 1: Latest advances in X.509 from organizations across the world
Recommendation ITU-T X.509 is a common standard developed jointly by ISO/IEC JTC 1 and ITU since the early 1980s. It defines frameworks for public-key infrastructure (PKI) and privilege management infrastructure (PMI) which are used as the foundation for secure transactions in business-to-business (B2B), business-to-customer (B2C) and government-to-citizen (G2C) environments. This session focused on discussing the latest advances in X.509 activities and quantum information technologies from organizations and groups globally. Moderator: Zhiyuan Hu, Director, Security Research, vivo Mobile Communication Co. Ltd - Russell Housley, Former IETF Chair (2007-2013) | Founder of Vigil Security, LLC, United States: "Recent X.509-Related Activities in the IETF" [Presentation]
- Jean-Paul Lemaire, Question 11/17 Rapporteur | ISO/IEC JTC1/SC 6/WG 10 Convenor: "Plans for X.508, X.509, X.510 Recommendations" [Presentation]

Bearing in mind the history and intent of X.509 and considering its evolution to where we are today, this session focused on future directions for X.509 including trust governance, decentralized PKI and decentralized identity based on distributed ledger technologies. It also focused on how X.509 is impacted by quantum-safe cryptography and how ITU-T Study Group 17 collaborates with the standardization community in this regard.
