Policy enablers
The state governments in India support this concept. A Government of India order in November 2015
made it mandatory for all road developers in the country to use waste plastic, along with bituminous
mixes, for road construction. This was primarily aimed at helping to overcome the growing problem
of plastic waste disposal in India.
Stakeholders involved
The project was elaborated using the technology developed at the Thiagarajara College of Engineering,
Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and then implemented on a commercial scale on small highways by the highway
