Session 2: Introduction to Internet Governance

This session will provide an overview of Internet governance, covering its definition, the principles that guide its evolution, the key topics encompassed in the field, the main actors, the global nature of the Internet and any other information that provides a solid background to this workshop. It will also address the main issues under discussion in international bodies, including those of the UN.

Discussions will focus on policy challenges, actors, and initiatives being implemented by various stakeholders. Main cyber threats and frameworks of cooperation will also be discussed.

Session 7: Legal Aspects of Internet Governance: Privacy as an Example

This session will provide an overview of the different types of legal instruments and their role in Internet governance (e.g. international agreements, national laws, private contracts - terms of service). It will focus on legal issues concerning online privacy and data protection from a legal standpoint (e.g. how laws and contracts deal with aspects such as consent and data collection) and also from a practical perspective, covering some privacy enhancing technologies.

The session will also highlight some challenges created by a data-centered economy.
