ITU-TRAI International Training on Emerging Trends in Broadcasting

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) organized the ITU-TRAI International Training on Emerging Broadcasting Trends from 9 - 11 October 2019 in New Delhi, India. The training  ​supported by ITU-Department of Communications and the Arts (Australia) project.

The training course aimed to share real experiences and brainstorm on possible solutions to address existing as well as emerging challenges in digital broadcasting technologies. The course discussed policy and regulatory options to encourage innovation and address consumer choices. The training designed for middle and senior level managers from telecommunication/ICT policy-makers, regulators, industry, academia from ITU membership.

The training course conducted in English only. Detailed information about the training is available here. Please register your interest as soon as possible but not later than 31st August 2019.

ITU providedt one partial fellowship, covering Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA), for the duration of the training course, offered to one participant duly authorized by the respective ITU Administration. Preference will be given to participants from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Low-Income Countries, with a per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) not exceeding USD 2'000 from the Asia-Pacific Region, subject to available budget and full participation in the training programme. The deadline for fellowship applications is 31 August 2019. The Fellowship Application Form is attached (Annex 3).

The session aims to provide an overview of the existing broadcasting sector in India and in general. Presenters representing a wide range of service providers will share their views on use of various technologies in offering their services.

CDN plays a vital role in delivery of OTT services with some acceptable level of quality of experience.  However, deployment of CDN cost extra for broadcasters. Session also address how telcos and broadcast industry are collaborating to offer broadcast-like services over the broadband.
